This site aims to promote serious change within the Conservative Party and Canada's political environment. We prioritize accuracy in our journalism, which is why we reached out to Pierre Poilievre for his perspective on any information or claims made about him. Additionally, we invite him to represent his party with a statement concerning these issues. To maintain transparency, we have included multiple sources for each claim made.

Housing

It is incorrect to claim that our current housing shortage is solely due to immigration. These issues have been present for years, and our housing problems have been building up during this time. The actual crisis is a result of capitalism: Allowing landlords and corporations to profiteer will inevitably lead to exploitation. The existing system prioritizes profit over people, which is inherently flawed. To address this, we need publicly funded housing or a crown corporation for managing rental properties. Houses should primarily be considered as homes rather than passive 'investments'. During his final year in the Stephen Harper government, Mr. Poilievre served as the Minister of Employment and Social Development. His actions were focused on treating housing as an investment, which resulted in him green-lighting fewer affordable projects than necessary. It's likely that he built less than 100 affordable homes during this period, contrary to his claims of constructing 200,000 reasonably priced units. Additionally, he allowed 800,000 affordable homes to be sold off to corporate developers.

In light of the information provided, will Mr. Poilievre, as a public figure and representative, commit to creating affordable housing or managing rental properties through a crown corporation? This would directly address the issue of profit over people in the existing system and prioritize homes rather than passive investments. Additionally, could Mr. Poilievre clarify if he is connected with lobbying groups that own large real estate assets, and whether he commits to making full disclosure regarding all ties to real-estate lobbyists and assets?

Axe-the-tax

The "Axe-the-Tax" policy of the Conservative Party of Canada may encounter difficulties due to many countries we trade with requiring a federal carbon pricing system. When examining the carbon pricing on groceries, it results in less than a 0.2% annual increase. You are likely to receive a larger credit than you pay in fuel costs if you have a 40L tank and fill up twice weekly (approximately 800 km of travel), with the carbon pricing cost being 11.45/week or $595.4/annually as of 2024. For example, in Ontario where there is no provincial carbon pricing scheme, if you reside in a city, you would receive $560/annually in rebates from the federal government, distributed over four payments. In contrast, rural areas enjoy slightly higher rebates. The main concern with these systems is corporate greed, which can be effectively addressed by implementing appropriate regulation. The extraction of profit by large corporations is an amount higher than these taxes or transport cost increases account for in nearly all systems today.

We kindly request Mr. Poilievre to address the following inquiries: 1) Are you considering eliminating both federal and provincial carbon tax or cap and trade programs? 2) Has any independent analysis been conducted on the potential costs or savings resulting from such changes? 3) Do you intend to address the issue of corporate greed or artificial inflation of fuel costs by corporate interest groups and oil & gas giants? Lastly, 4) What are your plans for potential tariffs on consumers as a result of these decisions?

In addition, the recent criticism concerning taxes has targeted the rise in capital gains inclusion rate. It is incorrectly deemed as a "new" tax, when in fact, it has historical precedence from the 1980's with an inclusion rate set at 75%. Presently, the inclusion rate stands at 50% for the initial $250,000 in earnings and 66.6% for any income exceeding that threshold. This increase will not impact those who work for others; however, it will affect specific groups such as day traders, crypto traders, individuals “cashing out” farm based businesses over 1.5 million, and those selling a second home with the primary residence being exempt. It's crucial to note that labor or salary income is often taxed at a higher rate than capital gains eligible investments. This increase affects a limited population, yet opposing this increase may contradict their own interests and benefit the country overall.

Women's Rights

Mr. Poilievre claims he will not vote against a woman's right to choose, however, in the past, he has supported legislation that could result in legal confusion and guarantee a fetus' rights over those of the mother. While his party asserts they have no intention of addressing abortion as an issue, their policy attempts throughout the years have seemingly come close to disrupting the balance of women's rights, suggesting otherwise.

It should be noted that Mr. Poilievre has expressed opposition to a woman's right to choose in the past, altering his views recently through public discourse on social media and interviews.

In light of this context, we kindly ask Mr. Poilievre to make a commitment to the Canadian public that, throughout his term, he will not propose or enact legislation pertaining to fetal rights or abortion restrictions and will prevent his members from doing so without proper consultation from human rights experts.

Extreme and Pointed Language, Clear Misinformation

He communicates with his audience through a manner that may be reminiscent of cult-like language patterns, and mirroring the MAGA strategy that has infiltrated US politics. In personal discussions, he expresses his genuine motives. Furthermore, concerning the LGBTQ+ community, the remarks made during intimate speeches are strongly objectionable in nature, with no basis in reality. It is crucial to note that Justin Trudeau does not control Education; rather, it is the provinces that hold this responsibility. Recent amendments include teaching informed consent, STIs, and bodily autonomy. There has been very sublte movment for gender diverse youth’s rights in society as they have become a debate point in today’s political landscape.

Is the conservative party against these amendments? Other teachings? If so, could you share what in the curriculum the issue is? Parents have always had the option to opt-out their children and educate them on sex independently from the classroom, so why should your/your parties beliefs impact future students ability to learn important information?

There is no influx of "tax-payer funded" opioids on the streets as Mr. Poilievre claims. Existing safe supply providers have strict use guidelines, monitoring, and rules in place to prevent sharing of substances. These are care-focused programs with a higher success rate than the forced treatment options Mr. Poilievre supports. Medical professionals working with patients, addicts, and their caregivers hold a different viewpoint, which is supported by historical data on drug policy rather than social or religious views. North America knows forced treatment is incredibly costly, and not near as effective long term.

In light of the mentioned points, we kindly ask Mr. Poilievre what his intentions are regarding replacement for safe supply and injection sites if the party's stance involves closing them, along with providing data supporting the efficacy of their proposed solutions, if they are not novel concepts.

Poilievre voted against rules on lobbying, the current conservatives support corporate efforts

“A day before the council’s election at the convention, Conservative members voted down a resolution calling for lobbyists to be barred from serving on the 20-member governing body, in a policy session off-limits to the media.”One of his top advisors is heavily involved in lobbying efforts, as per democracywatch.ca report.
